In the late 1980's, Powell Peralta had an established vert team that was maxed out with the likes of Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill and Lance Mountain. In an effort to expand the companies pro roster to include the growing "Street-Style" market, they began adding new "street" pros. After Tommy Guerrero it was Mike Vallely, then Ray Barbee. The fourth Powell-Peralta Street pro to receive a deck model was Long Beach local, Steve Saiz. His Native American "totem pole" graphic was the second illustrated by newly acquired artist Sean Cliver in 1989. Saiz continued to skate for Powell-Peralta into the early 1990's until his knee unfortunately gave out.

Originally Released: 1989

The Steve Saiz deck, originally released in 1989, was characterized by its blue-dyed top and rails. It featured the original concave and the “Long 4” truck hole pattern. Powell-Peralta’s re-issue decks are close reproductions of their 1980s counterparts, maintaining the original top and bottom graphics, shape, and concave.

These re-issue decks are crafted with the company’s partner in Mexico, using U.S. hard rock maple and glue that meets Powell-Peralta’s specifications, ensuring durability and a warranty against delamination for their useful life. The shape and graphics of these decks are created in Santa Barbara, CA.
